Our gym, and the people in it

Gymnastics should fit a kid's whole life.

Tammy McLean grew up in the sport, then raised her kids in it. Her son Austin and daughter Sydney both competed through their childhoods and now coach at ABGA. Her husband Todd coaches too. ABGA is family-owned and family-coached, built on the idea that gymnastics should make a kid stronger on the equipment and outside the gym.

  • AAU and USAG sanctioned competitive teams

  • Boys and girls competitive teams in the same gym

  • Walking-age through adult programming

  • A coaching family who grew up competing in the sport

Questions

Everything you need to know about getting started

What age can my child start?

Walking age. Diaper Daredevils is a parent-and-child class for the youngest gymnasts and runs through age three. From there, programs continue every step of the way to adult classes. There is no wrong age to start.

Do you offer trial classes?

Yes. Most recreational classes have a free trial slot for new gymnasts, and families are welcome to walk through the gym and watch a class anytime during business hours.

What makes competitive training different?

Competitive gymnasts at ABGA train multiple days a week and compete at sanctioned USAG or AAU meets from Pre-Team through Level 10. The coaching team includes Eastern Nationals qualifiers and state champions, with three decades of competitive program experience between the McLeans.

Is the gym safe for beginners?

ABGA is a USAG Member Club with SafeSport certified, background-checked staff. Every program starts with the basics and builds slowly, so gymnasts learn skills in the order their bodies can support.

What is the HUGS program?

HUGS stands for Helping Us Grow Strong. It is the only Special Olympics gymnastics program in the SouthShore, open to athletes 8 and up of any ability.

How do I enroll my child?

Enrollment runs through the iClass Pro parent portal, where families can register for classes or book a free trial. Families are also welcome to call or stop by the gym at 11116 US Hwy 41 S in Gibsonton.
